What are skinboosters?
Skinboosters is an innovative technique of delivering hyaluronic acid (HA) into the skin. This technique involves injecting small amounts of HA via precise micro injections to enhance hydration levels from deep within the skin, achieving that glowing, radiant look.
Skinboosters contain stabilised hyaluronic acid meant to replace the lost hyaluronic acid to restore the skin’s elasticity, firmness, and smoothness.
HA can hold up to 1,000 times its molecular weight in water.
HA not only helps to improve hydration. Its many known benefits include improving collagen production, accelerating wound healing, reducing inflammation, and antioxidant functions.
Types of skinboosters in Singapore
There are a few skinboosters available in the market. Each skinbooster is unique in its own way and they are all equally effective.
Injectable boosters:
- Restylane Vital/Vital Light
The first skinbooster in the market, Restylane Vital/Vital Light, are partially cross-linked HA chains containing up to 20mg/ml of HA per syringe.Cross-linkages indicate how dense the HA chains are in the skinbooster. The more cross-linked the HA is, the longer the skinbooster effect lasts.
- Teosyal Redensity I
Swiss-made Teosyal Redensity I (RDI) is a non-crosslinked skinbooster. What areas can skinboosters treat?
Skinboosters can be used on the face, neck, lower neckline (décolletage) and body.
What is a treatment session like?
Before the treatment, you may be prescribed oral painkillers while a strong numbing cream is applied to the treatment area(s) for about 30 minutes. During the procedure, small deposits of HA are injected into the skin.
Post-treatment, there will be several bumps over the treated areas. A cream will be applied to assist in the recovery of the skin. Massaging the bumps will also help quicken the recovery process. These bumps will subside in about two days.
There may be some needle marks and bruising after the procedure which will typically recover after 5 to 7 days, but no other serious side effects are to be expected.
Are skinboosters painful?
Injections can be uncomfortable but the pain is minimised as much as possible with painkillers and a numbing cream applied prior to the treatment. Each injection should not hurt more than a tiny ant bite.
How soon can I see results?
Apart from Juvederm Volite that requires just one treatment, the remaining skinboosters require at least three sessions, with a 1-month interval in between each session.
As the skin is a dynamic, living organ, maintenance treatment once every six to 12 months is recommended.
